2010 The Courier Shake Ridge Ranch

the horizon seen from the pump over platform, at midnight

From Anne Kraemer’s excellent Shake Ridge vineyard in Amador, the wine is a 60/40 blend of syrah and grenache. The wine was fermented in a very interesting way. Harvested on the same day, whole clusters were placed in the same bin and tread only lightly. We then sealed the bin and did not disturb the fruit for 45 days. A floating cap fermentation. We then drained and pressed the wine into neutral oak where it aged for 32 months without So2. Beautiful, soft and mineral, with a subtle, serious structure and vey good acidity. This is the last year we will make the courier.
