2009 Babylon Tenbrink Vineyards
The 2009 Babylon is a perfect representative of our deepest reds; they live close to the earth and not in the realm of fruit and flowers. It is a Caliban, powerful, wily, and yearning for beauty. The wine is rich and ripe; as with previous vintages, its tannins roar like the engine of a dragster. There are dark fruits, but no fruitiness; their aromas are rooted in a brooding, earthy, darkness. The finish is long and complex; minerally, with startling acidity for such a ripe wine. The wine is 100% Petite Sirah, but It reminds me of the less-restrained wines of Priorat, as if there were schist in Suisun Valley.
