Wines of the 1999 vintage
In 1999, there was no we—no Scholium Project. There was just an intern learning the most basic things in the cellar at Luna Vineyards. That was me. I was encouraged by all of my colleagues, many of them small winemakers beginning their own brands—but most of all by John Kongsgaard, who stopped everything on the crush pad one day so that I could crush some nearly abandoned, overripe Sangiovese, and make my first wine.
